Why Rhino Power Bond Plus?

Polymeric sand that sets fast, stays clean and holds a wide joint. Power Bond Plus is a water activated polymeric sand built for the joints a standard sand cannot hold. It fills up to 2 in at intersecting points, cures to a firm, flexible joint that moves with freeze thaw cycles, and leaves no haze on the paver face.

• Joints up to 2 in. Rated from 1/16 in to 2 in at intersecting points on concrete pavers, and up to 1 in on concrete overlays. One sand for the whole patio, including the wide joints at the edges.

Coverage by Bag Size

The 50 lb figures are Rhino's published coverage; the 20 lb and 10 lb rows are the same figures scaled by weight. Coverage drops over an open graded base and on small pavers, because a 4 by 8 in paver carries far more linear feet of joint per square foot than a 24 in slab. Before You Install

• Pavers and joints must be completely dry. Wait 24 hours after rain. Damp surfaces are the most common cause of haze.
• Joints need a minimum depth of 1 1/2 in for the sand to lock. Topping up a shallow joint does not work; clean old material out to 1 1/2 in first.
• The base needs a proper 1 in sand drainage layer; concrete overlays need weep holes.
• Temperatures must stay above 32 F (0 C) through installation and curing, with no rain forecast for 24 hours.
• Sweep every grain off the paver faces before you water. Sand left on the surface is what hazes, not the sand in the joint.
• Test a small, discreet area first. Follow the printed instructions on the bag for sweeping, compaction and watering.

Specifications

Install in 5 Steps

1. Spread. Tumble the bag, cut the bottom and spread the sand over a completely dry surface.
2. Sweep and compact. Sweep diagonally into the joints to full depth, remove the excess, then run a rubber plated plate compactor. Top up any joint that drops 1/4 in or more and compact again.
3. Sweep off. Soft bristle broom, then a leaf blower on idle to set the joint 1/8 in below the paver top. Not one grain left on the paver face.
4. Water in sections. Up to 200 sq ft at a time: mist until wet, switch to a light shower, 2 minutes in all, never letting the section dry. Screwdriver test for 1 in of moisture, then blow off standing water.
5. Cure. Rain safe in 10 minutes, fully set in one hour. Keep sprinklers off until cured, and wait 28 days before cleaning or sealing.
